The National Council of State has decided that the national minimum wage for states and the private sector should be N27,000, and agreed also that N30,000 should be minimum wage for federal workers.

This decision was reached in the National Council of state meeting, which held at the State house on Tuesday, and was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige informed state house correspondents of the decision, shortly after the meeting.

Reacting to the development, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani faulted the decision to slash N3,000 off the the sum.

According to him, many government agencies are declaring ‘record breaking’ Billions and trillions in revenues, while some states also boast of an increase in their Internally generated revenue. This according to him, this implies that both federal and states should be able to pay the earlier agreed sum of N30,000.
