A 33-year-old female church worker with a popular Pentecostal church with its headquarters in Lagos, Adefunke Afolayan, has been charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in the state, for allegedly stealing the sum of $5,000, belonging to the General Overseer of the church.
The accused, who was docked on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, according to the police prosecutor, Godwin Oriabure, connived with others who are still at large, to steal the sum in December, 2015.
Oriabure told the court that Afolayan used her privilege as a worker in the church, to gain access to where the money was kept in the tithe box, and stole it.
However, when the charges were read to the accused, pleaded not guilty and her lawyer, Anthony Makolo, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, E.A Johnson, granted her bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till July 1 for mention.
