A repairman has been rescued after he got stuck inside the room that houses an ATM while changing out the lock.
A contractor who got trapped behind an ATM was finally freed after sliding desperate ‘help me’ notes through the receipt slot.
The man, who has not been named, was fixing a lock inside the ATM room at the Bank of America in Mesquite Street, Corpus Christi in Texas on Wednesday, when he accidentally locked himself in.
Realizing he was stuck, and had left his cell phone in his truck, the contractor resorted to posting notes begging customers using the drive-through ATM for help.
There was one problem.
While the machine had a steady stream of customers that afternoon, the situation was so bizarre, most wrote the note off as a practical joke.
One such note, which was slipped through the ATM’s receipt slot, read:
‘Please Help. I’m stuck in here, and I don’t have my phone. Please call my boss.’
Eventually, one ATM user did take it seriously and called the contractor’s boss, who called the cops.
But even the Corpus Christi Police were skeptical.
‘We come out here, and sure enough we can hear a little voice coming from the machine. So we are thinking this is a joke. It’s got to be a joke,’ Senior Officer Richard Olden, told KrisTV.
After more than two hours trapped inside the ATM room, cops kicked down the door and freed the contractor.
‘Everyone is okay, but you will never see this in your life, that somebody was stuck in the ATM, it was just crazy,’ Olden added.
