Five Feared Killed While 12 Arrested in Kwara Cult Clash

About five people are feared dead in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, following clashes between two rival cults.

Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that the clashes started on Monday at the Gaa-Akanbi area of the metropolis, leading to the death of a man in his 20s.

Sources said the unnamed victim was shot many times before his attackers used machete on him.

Our correspondent gathered that the fight spread to the Ipata Market and Kankatu areas of Ilorin on Tuesday and Wednesday, while two persons were said to have been killed.

A corpse of an 18-year-old boy was discovered beside the Amilegbe Bridge around the Kankatu area.

It was also said that a man in his 30s was killed by suspected cultists between 10am and 11am on Wednesday in the Odoota area.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, said the police recorded the death of three persons.

He also said about 10 people had been arrested in connection with the clash.

He said, “Apart from the 10 suspects, we have arrested the leader of the two cults. Security has been beefed up in areas. Residents are advised to go about their normal business.”
