Due to her refusal of a C-section, a Ghanaian mother with a known heart issue tragically lost both her life and the life of her unborn child.
The episode highlights the possible repercussions of allowing outside influences to dictate medical decisions, according to Dr. Wilberforce, a medical expert who was involved in the case.
The woman was given a medically advised elective Cesarean Section (C-Section) because to her precarious heart condition, per Dr. Wilberforce’s account posted on Twitter.
The woman’s weak heart was at serious risk due to the strain of labor and vaginal delivery, the doctor noted.
Despite the urgency of the situation, the woman’s response was surprising – she expressed the need to consult her husband before proceeding with the medical procedure.
Subsequently, she left the medical facility and did not return for several weeks.
Tragedy struck when the woman eventually returned, already in labor. Tragically, it was discovered that her baby’s heart had ceased beating, resulting in an intrauterine fetal demise (IUFD) that had occurred days prior.
Confronted with the devastating outcome, the woman’s husband reportedly stated that he had made a personal agreement with God that his wife would deliver the baby vaginally.
However, this decision proved fatal, as the woman suffered a cardiac arrest and lost her life shortly after.
In doctor words;
“Client was offered an ELECTIVE (pre-planned] C/S because she has a heart condition. Her frail heart would simply NOT withstand the distress of labor and vaginal delivery! Her reply: ” I need to tell hubby about all this first”, and she left.
“Never showed up UNTIL Several WEEKS after. This time, in labour; but the baby’s heart had stopped beating. Baby was dead [IUFD], for days, even. When confronted, husband was like: “I had an AGREEMENT with God that my wife will deliver normally.
“Long story short, the lady is in the MORTUARY. Her heart gave up – a cardiac arrest
“So a little advice to anyone who might find themselves in this situation, Decisions pertaining your body must be made by only you and you alone. Always put yourself first before the baby. You can always try again if you lose the baby, but if you lose your life, you’re done.”
