Professor Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate and well-known Nigerian playwright, has requested that the Federal Government of Nigeria declare a national public holiday for the nation’s traditionalists.
During his 89th birthday party, which took place over the weekend, he said this.
Soyinka expressed his opinion that traditionalists have been disregarded and ignored in the country for far too long, and it is past time for them to get the respect they deserve.
He made the case that conventional religions, including Islam and Christianity, should observe annual holidays to honor their principles and customs.
In his words;
“We’ve had enough of being second-class citizens in this nation. It’s time for equal time and equal space. We demand public holidays.”
