A young man uploaded a statement from the WhatsApp group of his business in which it was stated that the fuel subsidy had improved employee compensation.
Following Bola Tinubu’s announcement that fuel subsidies will no longer be offered, there has been turmoil in Nigeria for a few days.
After the announcement, many fuel stations raised the prices of their petroleum goods from N150 and N200 to N500–1000.
The company’s director sent out notes to the workforce informing them that starting in June, their salaries would increase to lessen the impact of the elimination of the gasoline subsidy.
Part of the message reads: “We understand the economic situation of the country, especially with the high transportation cost. We will try to augment everyone’s pay while paying this month’s salary at least to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.”
