18-year-old boy arraigned in court for ‘brutally assaulting’ security guard

Michael Segun, 18, has been charged with assaulting a security guard with planks and bottles and has been arraigned before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The incident happened on June 1, 2023 at the Larryem Hotel in Abule Egba, Lagos, Teenager Segun, who lives in the Captain neighborhood and is unemployed, was accused of conspiring and assault.

Police Prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem presented the case against the defendant during the court session that was held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, before Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi.

Akeem claimed that Segun and his friends attacked the hotel’s security guard Mr. Shettima Ibrahim with great brutality. According to reports, Segun was attacked after Ibrahim chastised him for smoking Indian hemp on the hotel grounds.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention. The offences committed by Segun are said to contravene Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. In response, Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted Segun bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties required to provide a similar amount.

The case has been adjourned until August 2, 2023, for mention, as the legal process continues.
