There’s is no doubt that award winning, self proclaimed, ‘King of Queens’ , Yemi Alade, had one of the best year of her music career in 2015.
Yemi took over the lead as the top female musician in Nigeria, winning all the major best female artiste awards.
Some critics have however laid claim to the fact that Yemi had a great year only because Tiwa Savage was on a maternity break from the music scene.
In a recent chat with Hip TV, Yemi, speaks about her first Headies award, Tiwa Savage being a threat and her upcoming album Mama Africa.
ON WINNING THE ‘REVELATION OF THE YEAR’ AWARD AT THE 2015 HEADIES AWARDS:
“I finally have a Headies award in my house. it’s been a while now. It’s high time I had a Nigerian award in my house,” she said as she chuckled.
ON WHETHER SHE FEEL SHE HAS GOTTEN TO A LEVEL IN HER CAREER WHERE SHE CAN NOW RELAX SINCE SHE HAS GAINED A LEVEL OF PROMINENCE IN THE INDUSTRY:
“No, the grind is different. “If before the grind was on the street, the grind is in the sky [now]. “Imagine walking against gravity and everything against you. It’s different, it’s deep.”
ON THE STRATEGIES SHE HAS IN PLACE TO MAINTAIN THE STANDARDS SHE HAS NOW:
“The strategy hasn’t changed. It’s still the same thing, just in a different magnitude. “[We’ll] continue doing the simple things we’ve always done and try to bring in the extra, put God first and have a creative team. Renew them, refresh them, that has been the strategy, it hasn’t changed.”
ON CRITICS WHO SAY TIWA SAVAGE’S BREAK FROM THE MUSIC SCENE GAVE THE NAGODE HITMAKER A CHANCE TO SHINE, A CHANCE SHE WOULD SOON LOSE NOW THAT TIWA SAVAGE HAS RETURNED:
”Opinions are opinions, does that even make sense in normal English terms. I don’t see how that makes sense. Sounds like a joke. I’m I supposed to laugh now”
