“Why I Dedicated my song ‘Mama Papa’ to Yemi Alade” – Sabrina opens up

Fast-rising Cameroonian singer, Wamba Ruth alias Sabrina has opened up on why she names one of her song ‘Mama Papa’ after Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade.

In a statement sent to Saturday Beats, she stated that she did this out of admiration for Alade.

She said, “I dedicated the song to Yemi Alade because she is one of my idols, and she inspired me to write the song.”

Speaking about the song, she added, “It pays tribute to the mothers all over Africa, who are shouldering the responsibilities of both parents for their children, in the absence of their fathers.

The singer’s other songs include ‘Validé’, ‘Abele (featuring Koffi Olomide), and ‘Five Star’ (featuring her label mate, Martins), which is quite popular on social media and content-sharing platform, TikTok.

Going down memory lane, she recalled that she started getting involved with music at the age of eight by joining her church’s choir. She added that while in secondary school, she joined singing groups, or just sang to her classmates in a bid to further develop her talent. According to her, she was often commended for her ‘unique voice texture, simplicity and loving personality’.

She noted that after secondary school, she started recording her own songs. Soon after, she was spotted and signed to her current record label, Afrobit Productions, after scaling through its talent casting process.

The singer also stated that performing with a live band was one of her most favourite things to do. “Whenever come on stage, it becomes a ‘live party’ that keeps the audience always yearning for more,” she added.
