Legendary singer and songwriter, Prince has died at his Paisley Park home, outside Minneapolis, aged 57, on Thursday April 21 leaving behind him a gaping hole in musical genres as diverse as R&B, rock, funk and pop.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning,” publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.
Earlier Thursday, police said they were investigating a death at the Paisley Park studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. They responded to a medical call and found the singer unresponsive in an elevator.

No details were immediately given for the cause of death, though last week he was rushed to hospital apparently recovering from a bout of flu that had forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois.

Prince broke out in the music industry in the late ’70s and ’80s when he released the self-titled album Prince in October 1979. He’s also best known for his 1984 hit “Purple Rain,” which was released on his sixth studio album of the same name. Purple Rain become his first No. 1 album on the Billboard200.

Prince’s extensive career includes 39 solo studio albums. He’s known for songs such as “Little Red Corvette,” “Kiss,” “Thunder,” “Adore,” “Pop Life” and “When Doves Cry.”
