Kano Mob Beheads Woman For “Blasphemy”

A Kano mob of enraged Muslims slaughtered an elderly woman on an alleged charge of “blasphemy” against the Prophet Mohammed, Thursday evening at Kano textile market.

The woman, whose name was given as Bridget was murdered by the mob attacked her in the market while she was with her husband and slit her throat. A witness said the deceased was involved in an argument with another person within the market and, in the cause of the argument, she allegedly made the “blasphemous” remark.

Bridget’s corpse has been deposited at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in the state. Security sources told Daily Sun that, already, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while normalcy has returned to the area.

Kano State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Ransom Bello, confirmed Bridget’s death and expressed deep sadness over the reported nature of her death. “I have just been notified of the very sad development,” he said.
