The story of Sony Music Entertainment and Davido usually comes up in conversations when Davido takes a walk down the memory lane that birthed his career-defining hits, IF and Fall, songs that were released after what he has constantly described as a bad year for his music with his EP Son of Mercy and this time was no different as the pop singer talks about his encounter with persistent Tekno and how they eventually created the magical record, IF.
Speaking at the interview with DJ Abass on ‘For The Record With DJ Abass’, Davido talked about how his frustration with creating sounds that were not what he wanted, pushed him out of the United States and brought him back to Nigeria. During this conversation, the interviewer asked him if his existing deal with Sony is still active and in answering, Davido responded that while his deal is still active, with his present level of influence, he’s trying to renegotiate the deal.
Right now I have small mouth, so I’m trying to renegotiate
Although the Superwoman singer did not state to what extent he intends to renegotiate, the terms it’ll include or what is motivating the decision to renegotiate, but what we are sure of is the fact that Davido knows he has “mouth” and he’s using the “mouth” to call shots.
