Recently, I have noticed that a lot of girls seem to check in and out of relationships like it’s a game of chess while some others just go ahead and double date. They often say ‘I have a school boyfriend’, ‘house boyfriend’ and ‘serious boyfriend’. So I sat down to think critically about the reason(s) why a young girl might not want to stick with one man. After my critical thinking and research, I realized the following are some of the reasons:
- You have too many guys with almost the same qualities asking you out at the same time and you lack the ability to say NO.
- You are so physically attractive that almost every guy you come across wants something more than just a friendship with you….making you a ‘hot cake’
- You solemnly believe in and abide by the mantra “Do not put all your eggs in one basket”
- You are greedy and want to eat your cake and have it.
Although many people would think the fourth reason is the main one, I believe the first reason above is the one most commonly practiced by girls with honest intentions. The word ‘NO’ is not an offensive word; it is a word that denotes disagreement or refusal. It is widely used in different circumstances but in this case, we consider relationship. Most times, the person been told NO finds it difficult to accept it as an answer while the person who uses it sees no wrong in it and generally, the word NO is supposed to be accepted.
As an adult, you are expected to know what you want and what you do not want, set principles for yourself and abide by it strictly and your ability to say NO creates a boundary especially when it comes to a relationship. You can’t possibly accept every guy that wishes to date you..
Every human has emotions and frowns whenever they are told NO but you do not have to date someone out of pity. To show your disapproval to him, you have to say NO politely, say it in a way that doesn’t sound offensive, brings down the self-esteem of the individual or even cause provocation which may lead to argument. Give concrete reasons why you actually cannot accept his proposal and make sure he understands you. If he persists, walk away and cut off every connection and if he is mature, he will accept NO because it is your decision. This applies equally to men as well.
In all, say NO to a guy you don’t really want to date because the first consideration of any relationship is that you have to love him and be honest with him and your inability to say” NO” indicates lack of self-confidence, a confused mind, indecision and a what some would call a ‘dustbin character’- Only the dustbin accepts everything and you my dear, are not a dustbin.
