The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of non-academic staff unions of Nigerian universities have given notice of their plan to resume strike which they suspended on September 25.
The JAC, comprising members of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists, announced the resumption of the strike on Thursday night.
They said the strike will resume on Monday, December 3.
The statement, which was signed by the national presidents of NAAT, Sani Sulaimon; NASU, Chris Ani; and SSANU, Samson Ugwoke, said their members frowned at the mode of sharing the recent financial allocation to universities.
“We wrote a letter to the federal ministry of education to explain the criteria for the allocation and we gave them seven days notice to do the needful. But the date has elapsed without a response from the federal government”, the unions said.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government’s disbursement of N23 billion to varsities had caused disharmony as the non-academic staff alleged that the current distribution formula gave unfair advantage to their academic counterparts.
The unions also said the memorandum of understanding they signed with government before suspending their strike action in September had yet to be implemented despite giving the federal government one month to start the implementation.
